Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We opened shop in 1974 as Infopro Services, then incorporated in 1982 as Infopro, Inc.
What is your primary product or service?
We have three product lines: 1) CASE (Computer Assisted Software Engineering) tools - for design, prototyping, development, and maintenance of databases and business software applications (Systemaker®, GuideMaker™, Datascan™, Sourcerer™); 2) Correspondence Tracking and Workflow Software (CorrFlow®, CorrTrack™); 3) Using our own developed and marketed tools, we develop "custom business application software" for "package prices".
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Started the business to develop software tools to semi-automate the process of writing software for development of a large manufacturing information system. Building the tools helped to cut the project cost and time frame by more than half. After implementing the manufacturing information system and refining the tools to help maintain that software, we enhanced the tools for sale to other software developers, and found that sales were at a sufficient to justify a new business.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We look at our company as a service company, partnering with our clients. Although our tools are licensed for use by our clients, we don't consider that initial license and sale as a primary source of income and purpose. Rather, we help our customers use our tools to achieve their goals in improving efficiency, operations, and other objectives with the software they develop using our tools. Many of our customers have been using our products, and have been continuously re-developing their own software with our tools, for over 20 years.
The majority of software companies have not been around for the 42 years we have been doing business.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We moved from Oak Brook IL, to Aurora IL in 2002, after high-speed internet (originally DSL and T1 lines) became both available and affordable at the homes of most of our employees. We closed our expensive main offices and began working from new home-offices. We've never looked back. Now, with video conferencing, on-line storage and development capabilities, we are quite comfortable with our distributed office arrangement. We also have added employees and contractors from outside our local area. When we provide training services to customers who use our software, we either use their own training facilities (or conference rooms), or rent local training facilities easily accessible to the mix of students who will be attending.
Provide detailed directions to your location
We do not accept walk-in appointments and do not perform training services at any of our home-offices.

What type of payments do you accept?
Most clients pay us by corporate check.
Many of our government accounts pay us through ACH.
Our international clients pay through bank wire-transfer.
Which areas do you service?
Our clients are currently located in 26 countries, with most being in the United States. The majority of our US clients are US federal, state, county, and municipal government agencies.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
The company is a privately held "C" corporation, incorporated in the State of Illinois. Various private stockholders, all of whom are US citizens, own the company. The company has no foreign investors or ownership, nor has any ownership by partnerships or corporations. Daily operations are run by employees on our staff who receive W2 compensation and salaries.
What are your hours of operation?
Business hours are 8:00 am - 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, except for major holidays. Various clients can negotiate maintenance and support contracts with us for extended support during non-business hours.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Any time we see our software, or the application programs developed with our software, being used effectively, especially after many years, we are really pleased, and consider such use a compliment to our products and our years of successful support and service.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
We don't have favorite "quote or Bible verse". However, each of our main business units does have a motto:
For our CASE tool and Application Development businesses:
"Managing Information for Success"
For our CorrFlow and CorrTrack business:
"Correspondence Tracking and Workflow Made Easier"
